The ladies of rock

Alanis Morissette's first few albums are really good. Liz Phair has some honest and sexually driven lyrics on many of her albums. You of course could argue that Heart had a brief competition with Led Zeppelin with regards to record and concert ticket sales.
Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship. I am more fond of Jefferson Starship's albums. Modern Times, Winds Of Change have some really great songs that feature Grace Slick.
K's Choice was once led by a female vocalist. Their first two albums are really good as well. Natalie Merchant and Melissa Etheridge would be on my list as well. Natalie's voice is lush and rich while there is a lot of credibility in Melissa's songs. You really believe the lyrics she sings.
Oh. We are forgetting Pat Benatar! She has so much more than just those radio hits. And there are a lot of radio hits.
Chrissy Hynde of The Pretenders. Check out Hormonally Yours from Shakespear's Sister sometime, too. Veruca Salt has some rockers. Tina Turner's Private Dancer album.

I partially agree. Starship comes nowhere near the artistic level of any JA or JS albums....they wimped out and fizzled out when they went commercial....I can listen to Nuclear Furniture , but that's as far as I go into Starship....there was a slight JS comeback with Tree of Liberty album, but that's about it. Slick's solo albums are very cool and well-arranged. I agree with you on all the other ladies you mentioned.
