After nearly being dropped by their record label following the good yet poor selling debut album, Aerosmith was given another chance to make it big. They got a new producer in Jack Douglas, who had previously worked with the likes of The Who and John Lennon. This and another year under their belt, Aerosmith was planning on their next album to get them off the ground and flyin', which comes the album title "Get Your Wings". This was really a hit or miss affair for Aerosmith so believe me when I say this is an important album. But anyways, on to the songs...
1. Same Old Song and Dance (3:53)
A groovy riff and some awesome singing is the best way to start the album. A bit of a more rockin' track, features some horns towards the end of the song to go along with the riff. The lyrics are some of Aerosmith's best. 5/5
2. Lord of the Thighs (4:14)
Now this is where Aerosmith separates itself from the rest of the rock and roll bands. Opening with a few drum beats and into a cool riff. The singing stands out like no other with Tyler adding a nice "pimp" tone to his voice. The lyrics, obviously about the prostitutes and pimps outside the recording studio, are some of their most underated lyrics on the album. After awhile Tyler switches back to a more "normal" voice and sings the rest of the verses. The song ends with the band jammin' out for the last minute or so with a nice solo from Perry. 5/5
3. Spaced (4:21)
The firsty fourty or so seconds has a ghostly spooky feel to it then gets back into the rockin' with a nice beat. The bass in this song is great which really shows an influence from John Entwistle of The Who. The lyrics as usual, are good, which this time follow the theme of human demise and destruction which would become a big topic for Aerosmith's lyrics in the following years. 4/5
4. Woman of the World (5:49)
Now this is the most underated song on the album by far. A quick drum beat intro similar to "Lord of the Thighs" quickly joined by an acoustic guitar and then the rest of the band joins in. The lyrics are what make this song rock and even more so the way Tyler sings them. It's hard not to want to sing along with Tyler throughout the song. Also, the different tempos in this song stand out a lot as well. After the lyrics finish the band jams out for the last minute or two which makes this the longest song on the album. 5/5
5. S.O.S. (Too Bad) (2:51)
By far the shortest track on the album, it's a catchy little song with catchy lyrics. The chorus goes; "Too bad, can't get me none of that" and is one of the catchier lines Aerosmith has ever written, but that's only my opinon. Anyways, this is not the best song by Aerosmith but it's a fine song nothingless. 4/5
6. Train Kept a Rollin' (5:33)
A rework of the Yardbirds song, Aerosmith adds a lot to make this seem their own including a live feel to it. The whole drum and lead guitar combination make this song rock the whole way through the five minutes and thirty three seconds. After 'bout halfway through the song it stops and in comes the pounding drums that resemble a train on the track and in comes the lead guitar that does a great job to sound like the whistle of a train. Great catchy and fun lyrics, overall, an amazing rock and roll song if you ask me. 5/5
7. Seasons of Wither (5:38)
This is a song that i'm always suprised never quite got the recognition it should have. It starts out slow but gains energy as Tyler plays the acoustic guitar through the intro and verses. The chorus feels a bit rushed but good anyhow. The lyrics stand out the most as well with Tyler's excellent raspy like vocals. The end features a nice little lead on guitar and ends with a lot of energy. A true Aerosmith classic and a great gem to be found if you haven't heard it yet. 5/5
8. Pandora's Box (5:43)
Back to more rockin', a T. Rex mixed with The Rolling Stones sounding like song with a catchy chorus. The only problem I think is it should've came before "Train Kept a Rollin'" and "Seasons of Wither" because it kind of brings the flow of the album down, but all in all, not a major issue. Overall, a good rockin' song to enjoy. 4/5
Finally, i'll come to the conclusion that I think this is Aerosmith's most underated album featuring some amazing songs. The only negative I have on the album is the track order with the last three songs. But oh well, all that matters is that it rocks, starting from the groovy "Same Old Song and Dance" to the haunting ballad "Seasons of Wither", it's a great album to enjoy from beginning to end.
