ROTTERDAM, Netherlands — A four-piece band of Italian rockers won the Eurovision Song Contest in the early long periods of Sunday, giving one of the nations hit hardest in Europe by the Covid pandemic motivation to cheer.

"This Eurovision implies a ton, I think, to the entire of Europe. It will be a beacon. So thank you, everyone. Truly," he added.

Italy, the bookmakers' top choice, followed Switzerland, France and Malta after the public juries conveyed their votes yet were impelled to triumph by votes from the survey public.

"The crowd is the main thing, obviously," said bassist Victoria De Angelis.
