what exactly is a progressive rock

I've been listening to the class for my entire life, however, what makes Progressive rock, Progressive rock?

I'm beginning a band with a companion, and we both have really big prog-rock impacts, yet what might cause it to so we fit into the progressive rock type?

Progressive Rock is another name for European rock, it has no roots in American blues or Country music, like eg the stones and the Eagles respectively
