The Queen, Rush and Yes stuff was pretty advanced for me, but this Steely Dan stuff is getting into a whole new area, where I have to ad-lib fills and and play a lot of groove licks to go with the beat. Their amazing bass player Chuck Rainey is impossible to play note for note because he's just winging it inside the chords, it's all different measure to measure so you just have to come up with something that is in key and fits the groove, very challenging for me.

On top of that, singing added another dimension. This is a bit low for me but I persevered, I think it sounds ok.

Pretty good, have you ever tried to emulate Lemmy's style of bass guitar playing, he was a genius on the rickenbacker?

Yes. he used the bridge (lower) pickup exclusively. I Love Lemmy for his image and aggressiveness, but his songs don't really do it for me, too basic, nothing really interesting. I like some of his Plasmatics collabs but for some reason he played more licks on those songs, I would have done "Come On Baby Put Your Love In Me" by now but Dad frowns on the lyrics. I"m more into this stuff http://tinyurl.com/cararickprog

Ok so you're not a Lemmy fan, he is at no 5 in my list and I do agree that by his time in Motorhead, when it was his band, he had adopted that rhythm style however in Hawkwind because the band already had rhythm and lead guitarist, Lemmy was forced to play bass as it should be and was really good.

My top two bassists are still Entwhistle of the who and jack Bruce of cream. Outside the top 5 you have Noel Redding an English bass guitarist from Jimi Hendrex's backing band, Hendrix experience and that wonderful bass guitarist who's name escapes me from the band free, check out this track.
