Hawkwind

I never got into hawkwind until the mid 80's and I never saw them live until first time (of more than 30) was in 1990 when they had Karen Wishart on vocals and were promoting the then new album space bandits.

Yes, Bridget ( not Karen)was a cool singer in the Hawks.....by the time they recorded Electric Teepee, Bainbridge (bassist and keyboard player) and she had left the band.

You are right it is Bridget, she was only in the band a few months and that one album, Space Banditsl.

I saw her at London Brixton Acadamy in 1990 and I believe this is the only live recording of her on vocals, unfortunately the music seems to be out of sinc though with the musicians.

While I have heard of Hawkwind, I probably should give them another chance. I can appreciate the zeal you seem to have for the band. From memory, I don't think I have any Hawkwind in my collection but I will sample an album or two somewhere this week. You have inspired me.

Give em another try, you won't regret it. Try listening to Levitation and your third eye will be opened :):)
 
Challenge accepted! I finished listening to their self titled album, moments ago. Listen, I'm a guy who can find some good in bands like Budgie, some Uriah Heap, and I just did not enjoy this album enough to return to it.
I'll listen to another album a little later, perhaps.
 
Maybe you'd like their later albums, but you'll miss out on Lemmy.
Or perhaps you don't like psych space rock:)
 
The first album like a lot of bands from the late 60's is psychedelic and is not typical of Hawkwind, although hurry on sundown and mirror of illusion are great tracks IMO. They never developed their classic 'space rock' sound until Lemmy (later Motorhead) joined the band in the early 70's

I would never have even come close to listening to HW if they hadn't been psychedelic.
 
I really like Hawkwind. However, I have a problem with them: they have so many albums (be them live or in studio) that I don't know where to start with their discography. Don't misunderstand me, I loved what I heard of them (Space Ritual, Hall of the Mountain Grill and Quark, Strangeness and Charm), but they are too hard to get into for me. Not artistically, but in terms of gargatuan output. If somebody here can help me orientate with this band, I'd appreciate it. I really like them, now I want to love them. Any fans here willing to do that job? Thanks.
 
Do you mean albums worth trying that are not in your list? try warrior on the edge of time as an early album (1975)


Space bandits as an in between (1990)


...and take me to your leader as a later album (2005)

 
I guess I'll start with Space Bandits. That album cover calls my attention. I mean, I know I shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but I guess I can break that rule every once in a while. Thank you.
 
Nik Turner , co-founder of HW in 1969 together with David Brock, passed away on 11th Nov. Sad day for rock ......sad day for all if us HW fans :( .. ... R.I.P. man, I hope your cosmic trip continues.Screenshot-2022-11-11-at-17.47.44-696x725 (1).png
 
This is sad news :( and joins Hue LLoyd Langton, Lemmy and Robert Calvert. He wasn't a co-founder of the band although he was in the band by the first album. He was a roady for the band and Brock took him on because he could play Sax and flute.

Brainstorm, or at least the Lyrics for it as Brock did the music was his biggest contribution to Hawkwind
 
Doremi Fasol Latido is a must-listen for fans of progressive and experimental rock, and is considered an essential recording in the history of the space rock genre.
